Severe thunderstorm leaves 3-year-old girl in critical condition, cuts power for thousands in Montreal
High winds lifted an inflatable play structure during a church gathering, leaving a 3-year-old girl critically injured and six others sent to hospital.
A violent storm swept through Montreal on Sunday, injuring 11 people at Ouellette Park in LaSalle when high winds lifted an inflatable play structure during a Madre Dei Cristiani Church gathering around 4:30 p.m.
Environment Canada reported wind gusts of 50 km/h as the storm moved across Montreal and the South Shore, with the powerful winds tossing the inflatable structure into a nearby tent during the church outing.
Urgences-Sant paramedics evaluated 11 people, transporting six to hospital, including a 3-year-old girl who remains in critical condition after being swept away by the inflatable structure.
The storm caused severe power outages across the region, with more than 6,250 households in the Laurentians losing electricity and more than 1,300 customers affected in Laval as fallen branches disrupted service.
In Hochelaga-Maisonneuve, high winds downed a mature tree on Leclaire Street that crushed a parked car, while authorities continue investigating the park incident and managing recovery efforts across the region.
The whole community was sounded, the day after an unusual drama in a residential area of LaSalle. An inflatable game, in which adults and children were found, flew into the air several meters long and caused six injuries during a quagmire.
