Serena Williams is set to return to tennis at the Queen’s Club Championships
Williams returns after nearly four years away, with a wild card doubles entry and a possible grass-court path to Wimbledon.
On Monday, June 1, Serena Williams announced her return to professional tennis, confirming she will compete in the doubles event at the HSBC Championships at Queen's Club next week.
Williams sparked comeback speculation after reentering the International Tennis Integrity Agency's anti-doping pool on February 22, fulfilling eligibility requirements despite previously stating she was "evolving away from tennis."
The 44-year athlete credited GLP-1 medication for 34 lbs weight loss and improved health; she will partner with Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko for the competition starting June 8.
Tournament director Laura Robson welcomed the 23-time major winner, stating, "Serena Williams is one of the greatest athletes the world has ever seen, and we're delighted that she will be making her return."
Following the HSBC Championships, Williams may pursue a record-equalling 24th Grand Slam title at Wimbledon, marking her first competitive matches in nearly four years after the 2022 US Open.
