The record level of physical violence against journalists, death threats and a smear campaign on the Internet, entrenched impunity and firm political control over the media space indicate that media freedom in Serbia is in a deepening crisis, while the space for the work of independent journalism is rapidly narrowing, the European Federation of Journalists (EFJ) assessed in a report published today.
