Senegal in Trouble but World Cup Dream Not Dead
Pape Bouna Thiaw said Senegal still can qualify with one match left, despite becoming the first side to open a World Cup with two defeats.
On Monday, Senegal suffered a 3-2 defeat to Norway, marking their second consecutive World Cup loss after falling 3-1 to France in their Group I campaign opener.
Coach Pape Bouna Thiaw attributed the loss to poor timing, noting the team conceded goals 'just before half-time and then just after we came out for the second half' against a 'very strong Norwegian side.'
France, who defeated Iraq 3-0 in Philadelphia, and Norway both secured six points, advancing to the next round and leaving Senegal in a precarious position.
Despite the setbacks, Thiaw insisted it is 'too early to say that we failed,' urging the squad to focus on their final match and secure three points.
Regarding potential progression, Thiaw said 'once you're in the next round, then it's another tournament that starts,' emphasizing the importance of their remaining match.
