Members of Parliament called for further action to ensure the safety of coal dumps, and for the history of the Aberfan disaster to be included in the Welsh school curriculum, marking 60 years since the disaster. On 21 October 1966, a heap of coal waste slid down the mountainside above the village of Aberfan, burying Pantglas Primary School and a number of houses.
