Senators extend Maple Leafs' skid with resounding win
On Saturday, the Ottawa Senators defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs 5-2 at Scotiabank Arena, with Toronto surrendering four second-period goals that decided the game.
Maple Leafs slow starts continued, as after scoring first and recording two shots, they were outscored 1-0 and outshot 16 for the rest of the first period.
Standout contributions came from Drake Batherson, Dylan Cozens and Thomas Chabot as Batherson and Cozens each scored twice, Chabot had a goal and assist, and Linus Ullmark made 21 saves.
The Ottawa Senators improved to 29-22-8 after their win, while the Toronto Maple Leafs will host Philadelphia on Monday and visit Edmonton on Tuesday.
Amid the rivalry, the win marked Ottawa Senators' first over Toronto Maple Leafs since last season's playoff series and tensions sparked a third-period brawl with 28 penalty minutes including a 10-minute misconduct to Max Domi, plus a season-low two shots for Toronto.
