Democrats Involved in Video to Troops Say FBI Is Targeting Them
The FBI and Justice Department seek interviews with six Democratic lawmakers over a video urging refusal of illegal military orders amid concerns of potential unlawful strikes.
- The FBI has requested interviews of six Democratic lawmakers, to be conducted by U.S. Capitol Police at the Justice Department's direction.
- Last week, the lawmakers released a video saying service members can refuse illegal orders amid Democratic concerns about administration strikes in Latin American waters.
- Among those in the video were former service members such as Sen. Elissa Slotkin, D-Mich., former CIA analyst, and Sen. Mark Kelly, D-Ariz., Navy veteran, along with Reps. Chris Deluzio, Maggie Goodlander, Chrissy Houlahan, and Jason Crow.
- With the Pentagon and DOJ involved, immediate questions center on military recall and legal steps, as the Pentagon threatened to recall Sen. Mark Kelly to active duty and a Justice Department official said interviews will determine "if there's any wrongdoing".
- On Nov. 25, Sen. Elissa Slotkin, D-Mich., said the FBI Counterterrorism Division alerted her to a potential inquiry and called it a "scare tactic," noting threats including a bomb threat to her family.
