Senate Democrats tee up vote on child tax credit in election-year pitch to families
Democratic Senate Leader Chuck Schumer challenges Republicans to oppose a tax cut package aimed at expanding the child tax credit for families and restoring business tax breaks.
The $79 billion package passed the House but is unlikely to advance in the Senate, as it requires 60 votes.
The proposed changes could lift up to 500,000 people out of poverty and benefit families of 16 million children, according to the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities.
