Selma Blair rep releases statement on flight incident, assault arrest
Her representative said she had a medical emergency and denied she tried to open the aircraft door, while Blair faces assault charges.
- Publicist Jill Fritzo issued a statement Friday clarifying that Selma Blair experienced a medical emergency on Sunday's flight, emphasizing that Blair "did not intend to harm anyone" and denying she attempted to open the aircraft door.
- Blair was arrested late Sunday after Delta Flight 938 landed at JFK, where authorities received reports of a physically abusive passenger. Police alleged the Cruel Intentions actress punched one flight attendant and bit another.
- Fritzo noted Blair lives with multiple sclerosis and pseudobulbar affect, a neurological condition causing uncontrollable emotional expressions. The publicist argued these factors are secondary to her MS and bear directly on how the medical episode presented to unfamiliar observers.
- At Queens Criminal Court on Monday, Blair pleaded not guilty to two counts of felony second-degree assault. A judge set bail at $20,000 cash or a $60,000 bond, and she was released after posting the required amount.
- Beyond the state charges, Blair faces a federal summons for alleged assaults within United States maritime jurisdiction. Her next court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 19, 2027, as legal proceedings continue on multiple fronts.
