With the argument of taking care of the health of consumers, the Finance Committee of the Chamber of Deputies yesterday ratified its proposal to apply the excise duty on production and services (IEPS) to foods with excess sodium and increase that of beer. However, it accepted that the additional collection – estimated at 18.5 billion pesos as a whole – will not necessarily go to health spending.
