CHRISTIANIA—In search of… On September 11, 1851 a stand against enslavement was made in Christiana, Pennsylvania when a slave owner from Maryland made use of the Fugitive Slave Act of 1850 which allowed slave owners to enter a free state and claim their “property” as long as they had the proper documentation to prove their claims.
