Search for 11-year-old boy who went missing after entering river
Specialist teams, a police helicopter and drones are searching for the boy as officers ask the public to stay away.
- Emergency services were called to Ferry Boat Lane in Mexborough at about 20:00 BST on Saturday after an 11-year-old boy was last seen entering the River Don and did not emerge from the water.
- Doncaster Response Team Inspector Neil Pryce said witnesses and items left on the riverbank indicated where the boy entered the River Don, helping crews establish the search focus area.
- The rescue effort involves South Yorkshire Police, National Police Air Service, South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, and the Yorkshire Ambulance Service using underwater search teams, helicopters, and drones.
- South Yorkshire Police requested that members of the public stay away from the area for safety and refrain from spectating or filming to preserve the boy's family dignity.
- The boy's family is being supported by specially trained officers while the specialist search operation remains ongoing. "We are doing everything we can to find this young man," Pryce said.
