Sean Penn reveals why he skipped the Oscars this year
On Friday at the Tribeca Festival, actor Sean Penn explained his absence from the 98th Academy Awards, revealing he deliberately timed his humanitarian trip to Ukraine to coincide with the telecast.
Following his experience at the Golden Globes, Penn decided that large public gatherings trigger "anxiety," leading him to commit to avoiding groups larger than eight people.
Winning Best Supporting Actor for "One Battle After Another," the star watched the ceremony from Ukraine, admitting, "The best I could ever muster was relief."
Warner Bros. and his colleagues were informed of his absence ahead of time, as Penn believes large public gatherings only "gives you 15 minutes per person.
