Scripps Completes Station Swap with Gray Media
The even exchange gives Scripps five stations and expands its footprint in Colorado, Idaho, Michigan and Louisiana.
On Friday, The E.W. Scripps Company and Gray Media closed a cash-free television station swap across five mid-sized and small markets, consolidating their regional holdings through an even exchange of comparable assets.
Initially announced in July 2025, the agreement creates new market duopolies in Lansing, Michigan; Lafayette, Louisiana; Grand Junction, Colorado; Colorado Springs, Colorado; and Twin Falls, Idaho, allowing both broadcasters to strengthen their local footprints.
Gray acquired WSYM in Lansing and KATC in Lafayette, while Scripps received KKTV in Colorado Springs, KKCO and KJCT-LP in Grand Junction, plus KMVT and KSVT-LD in Twin Falls.
"Greater depth in these markets creates the economic durability to sustain our public service commitment," Scripps CEO Adam Symson said, noting that scale and localism are complementary forces strengthening local news and emergency coverage.
Following Federal Communications Commission approval earlier this year, Gray now owns 117 full-power stations reaching about 37% of U.S. television households, solidifying its position as a major broadcast operator.
