School Bus Driver Busted for Travelling 50 Kms/h over Speed Limit, Police Say
Police say the driver also faces speeding and licence charges after officers saw the bus at 100 km/h with children aboard.
On May 26, a 56-year-old Beeton woman was charged with stunt driving after Dufferin OPP officers clocked her school bus at 100 km/h in a 50 km/h zone near County Road 17 and Prince of Wales Road in Mulmur Township, with children on board.
During traffic enforcement operations near County Road 17 and Prince of Wales Road in Mulmur, Dufferin OPP officers observed the bus travelling at excessive speed around 4 p.m. on Tuesday.
The driver was charged with stunt driving, speeding by more than 50 km/h over the posted limit, and failing to surrender her licence. Officers noted that 'children were on board the bus at the time of the offence,' the OPP stated in a release.
Police expressed heightened concern because the same intersection was the site of a fatal two-vehicle collision just over five weeks ago, where a six-year-old boy was killed and a two-year-old suffered life-threatening injuries.
The OPP emphasized that 'incidents such as this highlight the importance of safe and responsible driving, especially when transporting children,' reminding the public of their duty to protect young passengers.
