Schalin and Two Former Lakers Compete in 2026 Milano Cortina Olympics

MILAN, Italy – Today marks the first day of preliminary round matchups for women's hockey at the 2026 Olympics. The Mercyhurst women's hockey team sent Julia Schalin (Finland) to her first Olympics. Emma Nuutinen '20 (Finland) and former Laker Thea Johannson (Sweden) are also competing.

The 2026 Winter Olympics start on February 6 and will have the participation of nine Latin American countries. Starting this Friday, athletes from 93 countries will compete in 16 different sports. The games, which will be streamed on NBC and Peacock, will be held in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo. Some 23 athletes will represent their respective Latin American countries at the Olympic Games.
