Saudi Arabia to build $2 billion solar farms in Turkey, Turkish energy minister says

On Tuesday, Saudi Arabia agreed to invest $2 billion to build two solar farms totalling 2,000 MW in Turkey, signed by Alparslan Bayraktar and Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman in Riyadh.
In recent years, Saudi companies plan to build projects totaling 5,000 MW, starting with a 2,000 MW first phase in Turkey's Sivas and Karaman, as part of energy cooperation.
Credit lines from global institutions will support the construction, and Bayraktar said the investments are financed entirely through external financing with backing from international financial institutions and Saudi companies.
As a direct outcome, Turkish electricity capacity and high-level ties gain, with the solar power plants meeting the needs of 2.1 million households in Turkey, Bayraktar said.
Experts caution that the thaw requires balancing ties, noting Umar Karim said, `I think its in this visit that it will become clear what Turkey can commit to Saudis in terms of this rivalry with UAE and in terms of the security threat from Israel`, as reports indicate Turkiye won't join a Saudi‑Pakistan pact.
