After reading several texts published in late 19th century newspapers about the church of Santa Maria de Elche, I realized that its history is not only that of a religious building, but something much larger. Actually, it is the history of the city and its people. The truth is that reading those ancient articles it is noticed that for the illicitans Santa Maria was something very important, almost part of their daily life.
