Sanders Calls for Pause on AI Data Centers

  • On Wednesday, Sen. Bernie Sanders urged opponents to keep pressuring local, state and federal leaders and argued Congress is not seriously addressing the issue, while Sen. Elizabeth Warren and two other Democratic senators recently questioned big tech companies about residential energy bills.
  • Experts note that data centers already account for about 5% of U.S. electricity use, with electricity bills surging this year in northern Virginia, Illinois, and Ohio, while MIT estimates AI could replace up to 11.7% of American workers.
