NORTH SAN JOSE, CALIFORNIA, JUL 14 – The suspect allegedly stabbed his nine-year-old son before charging officers with a knife, prompting police to fatally shoot him, San Jose Police Chief said.
- On Sunday afternoon in San Jose, 48-year-old Mateusz Dzierbun killed his 9-year-old son with a knife at Cataldi Park before police fatally shot him following a confrontation.
- Dzierbun called 911 posing as a witness reporting the stabbing to lure officers to the park, concealing that he was the suspect who committed the crime.
- Officers arrived around 3:31 p.m. to find Dzierbun covered in blood, hunched over his son's body, armed with a large knife, and repeatedly refused to drop it.
- Police Chief Paul Joseph explained that the officers were unaware the distressed caller they were speaking to was actually the perpetrator, and he described the boy’s injuries as unimaginably severe.
- The ongoing investigation indicates that Dzierbun intentionally planned the incident to provoke a lethal police response, described by officials as a calculated and self-centered attempt to provoke law enforcement into using deadly force.
