Samoskevich Scores Twice and Kraken Beat Flames 6-1 in Home Opener as Calgary Stays Winless
Mackie Samoskevich scored twice as Seattle got goals from three newcomers in a 6-1 win, leaving Calgary winless after two losses to the Kraken.
- On Sunday, the Seattle Kraken cruised to a 6-1 victory over the Calgary Flames at Climate Pledge Arena, with newcomers Berkly Catton, Mackie Samoskevich, and Bobby McMann scoring in the first eight minutes.
- Seattle has dominated the Flames, winning 6-1 on Thursday and again Sunday, continuing their 2-1-0 record against a Calgary club widely expected to finish near the bottom of the 32-team NHL.
- Goaltender Joey Daccord made 32 saves, nearly securing a shutout before Calgary's Morgan Frost scored with 5:35 remaining; Samoskevich added a second goal as the Kraken's 3-0 start was fueled by newcomers.
- Roommates Samoskevich, Catton, and Matty Beniers are fueling the Kraken's chemistry this season, as Beniers recorded a primary assist on Samoskevich's second goal, demonstrating the trio's on-ice impact.
- The Kraken host the Vegas Golden Knights on Tuesday night; Jacob Melanson moved to injured reserve on Saturday, while new in-arena co-host Marika Davis greeted the Climate Pledge Arena crowd.
