Angry farmers set fires along the roads. Metal pipes were also found on the tracks, but it is not certain who committed the sabotage.
“We are being smoked out. That is why farmers' groups have set hay bales on fire along highways as a protest. The Netherlands needs to know how desperate farming families feel.” Sieta van Keimpema, chair of the Dutch Dairymen Board, told this site.

After acts of sabotage brought a halt to many train routes in the central, eastern, and northern portion of the Netherlands, Dutch national railway NS said it will "gradually" begin passenger rail service on Tuesday afternoon. Earlier in the morning, debris was placed on the tracks to disrupt rail switches, and trick signal lights to shine red, ProRail confirmed.
