Saanich woman turns breast cancer battle into a mission of hope

Now cancer-free after a full mastectomy in February 2024, Erin Beattie is calling for participants for the CIBC Run for the Cure at the University of Victoria on Oct. 5.
Her diagnosis in September 2023, delivered during a walk with her dog, prompted months of emotional turmoil and tough decisions.
Having raised more than $507 million since 1992, the CIBC Run for the Cure serves as Canada's largest volunteer-led, single-day breast cancer fundraiser, offering one- and five-kilometre routes.
Last year's run raised $165,000 in Victoria, and organizers are aiming to surpass $200,000 this year.
With over 46,000 participants across Canada in 2024 and events in eight B.C. cities, she said `No matter what your story is, your presence and your fundraising make a real difference.` to underscore the importance of community support.
