10-year Treasury yield jumps as September core inflation comes in hotter than expected
The benchmark 10-year yield fell 2 basis points as traders awaited a CPI report expected to show 3.6% annual inflation.
On Wednesday, Treasury yields inched lower as investors awaited the September CPI report, with the benchmark 10-year yield falling 2 basis points to 5.195%.
Economists polled by Dow Jones expect Headline inflation to rise 0.6% monthly and 3.6% annually, while Core inflation is projected to increase 0.2% from August and 2.5% on an annual basis.
Investors also await the September reading for the producer price index, retail sales data, and initial jobless claims figures, all scheduled for release on Thursday.
Yields above 5.30% raise the bar for risk assets, as Holders of REITs and utility stocks see their dividend yields look less attractive against risk-free Treasury income.
Deutsche Bank analysts noted Wednesday that the CPI comes two weeks before the Federal Reserve's next interest rate decision, with price growth accelerating away from the Fed's 2% target.
