Ryanair announces new check-in rule for all passengers effective from November

The change affects the roughly 20% of passengers who check bags and comes as Ryanair installs self-service kiosks at more than 95% of airports.

  • Starting Tuesday November 10, Ryanair will shift check-in and bag drop deadlines to 60 minutes before departure, extending the current 40-minute requirement to accommodate growing airport security and passport control delays.
  • The EES rollout triggered lengthy passport queues across Schengen Area airports; many travellers are experiencing delays, with more than 100 passengers missing a flight to Manchester at Milan Linate.
  • Ryanair CMO Dara Brady said the 20 per cent of customers who check bags will gain additional time to clear security and passport queues, while the 80 per cent using online check-in remain unaffected.
  • To support the change, the airline will install self-service kiosks at over 95 per cent of airports, integrated with the official app to speed bag-drop; passengers failing to check in on time may be denied boarding.
  • Historically, check-in deadlines were just 20 minutes when flying from Ireland; the carrier expects the earlier deadline to reduce the very small number of passengers currently missing flights due to airport congestion.
