A Rwandan dissident has been found beheaded in neighboring Uganda
The body was found in Mpigi District, and investigators have not arrested any suspects as concern grows among Rwandan refugees in Uganda.
On Saturday, the beheaded body of Rwandan ex-soldier Sgt Maj Robert Kabera was discovered in a bush in the Kamengo area of Mpigi District, Uganda, police said.
Kabera, a former Rwanda Defence Forces soldier, fled to Uganda in November 2020 citing persecution and became an outspoken critic of Rwandan President Paul Kagame.
Witnesses saw the deceased on Friday evening in Luwala Village traveling with a motorcycle rider named Innocent before his body was found without its head.
Superintendent of Police Lydia Tumushabe confirmed the body was transported to a Kampala mortuary for investigation, with no arrests made and the victim's head still missing.
Human rights activists have previously accused Rwanda of targeting dissidents in Uganda, though the Rwandan government denies such claims despite past incidents straining bilateral relations.
