Russia wants to make its automotive industry independent of Western manufacturers. But the attempt to revive the former Soviet brand Volga turns out to be a challenge: The cars are only Chinese models that are assembled in Russia.
Russia has revived the former Soviet brand Volga and presented three new models of the vehicle at an industrial fair. Investments of more than 60 billion rubles (about 600 million euros) will go into series production, which is set to start this year, Russian media reported on Tuesday, citing the company.
The Russians officially presented another communist model of the car, which they were forced to reactivate in the sanctioning reality. The car was supposed to be “purely Russian”, and it turned out to be a restyled Chinese model of the Changan concern. Even the steering wheel was made by the Chinese. And then a scandal broke out.
