Russia Says Drone Attack Damages Togliatti Facilities, Ukraine Says Petrochemical Plant Hit
Ukraine says the strikes hit plants tied to missile production and triggered fires, smoke and evacuations at a nearby car factory.
- On Saturday, October 24, Ukrainian forces struck the Tolyattikauchuk petrochemical plant in Tolyatti, Russia, triggering a large fire at the facility. Ukraine's General Staff confirmed the operation, though local authorities reported only minor damage to residential buildings.
- Because the facility manufactures synthetic rubber used in solid rocket propellants for Russian tactical and ballistic missiles, Ukrainian officials targeted it to degrade Moscow's military-industrial capacity. The General Staff stated, "Damage to such objects affects the supply chain of raw materials for the Russian missile program."
- Russia's Defence Ministry reported air defences destroyed 1,297 drones over the previous 24 hours on Saturday, while the Tolyatti strike forced evacuation of workers at the neighboring AvtoVAZ automotive plant. Footage showed thick black smoke rising from the industrial area around 6:30 a.m.
- Local authorities confirmed an attack occurred in Tolyatti but disputed the extent of damage, stating only residential buildings were hit. Russian officials issued drone threat warnings across the Samara region, and a local airport temporarily suspended operations.
- Coordinated strikes also hit the Proton-Elektroteks electronics plant in Oryol and an aircraft at the Yeysk airfield in Krasnodar Krai on Friday and Saturday. These operations reflect Ukraine's systemic effort to degrade Russia's military-industrial capacity and logistics networks.
