Russia launched more than 500 drones and two dozen missiles at Ukraine overnight, officials said Wednesday, as the Ukrainian president and European leaders continued talks on how to strengthen Ukraine's defenses and bolster U.S.-led peace efforts, which have so far been unsuccessful.

Fighter jets were scrambled in Poland to respond to the attack. Russia says its troops have entered the center of Kupyansk and control half of the city in Ukraine's Kharkiv region. The Ukrainians have denied the report.
