Petrified Russell Brand Survives First Night Behind Bars
Brand was strip-searched and given a first-night pack as prison staff kept him apart from other inmates after his conviction.
On Thursday, a jury at Southwark Crown Court convicted 51-year-old Russell Brand of raping one woman and sexually assaulting three others, with Mr Justice Bennathan warning of a "significant custodial sentence."
Jurors unanimously convicted Brand of offences against four women between 2004 and 2009, including the rape of a 21-year-old woman, while prosecutors deliberate charges involving two further individuals.
After undergoing a "humiliating" strip-search at a London prison, Brand was placed in an induction wing and monitored around the clock; reports suggest the actor was "petrified" during his first night.
Brand will return to court on Monday, November 9, to receive his sentence, where rape carries a maximum life imprisonment with guidelines suggesting starting points of five to 15 years.
Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy confirmed the investigation remains ongoing, urging further victims to come forward, while Victims' Commissioner for England and Wales Waxman campaigns for judges to direct juries on "rape myths" in trials.
