- On Wednesday, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio visited Kuwait City to reassure Gulf allies that Washington will not compromise their security during ongoing dealings with Iran.
- Concerns stem from an accord reached last week, the first signed by American and Iranian presidents since the 1979 Islamic Revolution, which includes a proposed $300 billion fund and sanctions waivers.
- Following talks with the United Arab Emirates leader earlier Wednesday, Rubio met with Kuwaiti Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah before departing for Bahrain.
- "We're going to be completely aligned with our partners in the Gulf," Rubio told reporters, adding that technical negotiators will resume talks in Switzerland at the end of the month.
- If Iran fails to pursue a "good and real deal," the Secretary stated the President maintains alternative options to address the regional situation.
