Rubio Announces Visa Curbs on Foreigners Linked to Far-Left Groups
The State Department said foreigners who finance or aid far-left terrorists will be barred from entering the United States.
On Thursday, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced the State Department "is imposing new visa restrictions to bar Far-Left Terrorists from entering our country," calling them "enemies of our civilization."
Speaking at a Washington summit the same day, Rubio argued the United States' counterterrorism doctrine has long maintained a "blind spot when it comes to extremist violence from the political left," fueled by "a hatred for civilization itself."
Rubio accused Marxists of disguising an "overwhelming need to tear down what greater men have built," arguing they despise the West "because the West is great" and are only capable of destruction.
President Donald Trump's administration previously designated four groups as foreign terrorist organizations in November, offering rewards of up to $10 million, while the Center for Strategic and International Studies reported 2025 marked the first time in more than 30 years left-wing attacks outnumbered right-wing violence.
Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee at the Capitol on Wednesday, while Trump contrasted his focus on left-wing violence with his criticism of Biden-era prosecutions regarding the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol breach.
