RSPCA rescue pony trapped inside tractor tyre
RSPCA officers and local residents freed the pony without injury after a staggered rescue from a 14-stone tractor tyre, officials said.
Last Friday, RSPCA rescuers saved a pony trapped inside a tractor tyre near Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire. Panicked locals raised the alarm after spotting the animal wedged inside a Michelin Agribib wheel lying in a field.
Rescuers believe the pony was playing with the tyre when it became wedged inside the inner lining. RSPCA officer Nicola Riley described the operation as a "very delicate rescue."
Locals lifted the 196-pound tyre while Riley worked to release the "understandably very scared and uncomfortable animal" from the 20-inch wide hole. Rescuers eased out the pony's front feet and shoulders to free him.
Thankfully, the pony was unhurt and showed no signs of lasting trauma. "He soon returned to grazing and walking around the field again," Riley added, noting the incident could have ended very differently.
Everyone worked well together to save the animal without injury, and the tyre was moved to stop other animals from getting trapped. This collaborative effort prevented potential future incidents.
