Roughly 150K Ballots Still to Be Counted in B.C. Election
The late ballots could change several close races as Elections BC checks certification envelopes before finalizing results.
- Elections BC will begin counting roughly 150,000 absentee, mail-in, and assisted telephone ballots on Friday, Nov. 6, with results expected to conclude by Nov. 10 for the Provincial General Election.
- Per the Election Act, certification envelopes are checked against the voters list to prevent double voting, adding to the nearly 1.8 million ballots already counted in the Provincial General Election.
- In Ladysmith-Oceanside, Stephanie Higginson leads Conservative Kris McNichol by 13 votes, while Burnaby South-Metrotown, Kelowna Centre, and Cowichan Valley feature margins of 66, 132, and 151 votes respectively.
- Automatic recounts are required for Burnaby-South Metrotown and Ladysmith-Oceanside because margins are fewer than 100 votes, conducted by district electoral officers prior to the final count.
- The writs are to be returned on Nov. 18, with Conservative MLAs sworn in Nov. 19, Green Party MLAs on Nov. 23, and NDP MLAs on Nov. 26.
