Jon Rahm Shoots 66 to Lead by One in Abu Dhabi After Three Rounds. Rory McIlroy 2 Shots Back
Rahm’s 6-under 66 and late birdie-eagle-birdie burst gave him a one-shot edge over McIlroy after 54 holes.
On Saturday, Jon Rahm shot a 6-under 66 to take a one-shot lead at the Abu Dhabi Championship, reaching 18-under total heading into Sunday's final round.
Rory McIlroy enters Sunday's final round two strokes behind Rahm after a turbulent third round featuring a double-bogey on the 10th and bogey on the 17th in his 67.
"I'm encouraged, because I played some really good golf, but I'm also a little rueful," McIlroy said, noting he must limit mistakes to chase the title on Sunday.
Tyrrell Hatton and Francesco Laporta share second place at 17-under, while Adam Scott holds fifth at 15-under at Yas Links. Multiple contenders remain within three strokes of the lead.
The two-week playoffs feature 70 players competing in this $9 million event, with the top 50 advancing to next week's $10 million finals in Dubai. Sunday's conclusion determines the final playoff field.
