It must have been a beautiful sight: three large oaks that stood in front of the house of Petri van Rossem and her husband in Winterswijk. Now they lie side by side on the ground, the middle one hangs completely in the front of their house. There are pieces of debris and shards of glass everywhere. "My husband was incredibly lucky."
After two days of scorching heat, severe weather swept across the eastern Netherlands tonight. Winterswijk was particularly affected. The fire brigade received at least 127 reports of damage and one fire. Many trees fell around Winterswijk, including on the N318 and N319, streets were flooded and train traffic was disrupted. In Winterswijk, according to the Safety Region North and East Gelderland, the roof of a commercial building on the Rondweg Zuid has partially collapsed. There was no one left in the building and therefore no injuries were sustained, according to the safety region.
