- On Dec 22, Tata Electronics announced a strategic partnership with Japan-based ROHM Co. to manufacture semiconductors in India for domestic and global markets, the companies said in a joint statement from New Delhi.
- As part of a wider push, India's Rs 76,000 crore semiconductor mission is moving toward commercialisation as the government has approved 10 semiconductor plants, including two fabrication and eight packaging and testing facilities.
- The Tata Group's projects include two semiconductor facilities worth around $15,000 million, a Gujarat fabrication plant and an Assam assembly and testing plant, alongside the $11,000 million Tata‑PSMC fab.
- The deal will focus on advanced packaging in India, boosting local assembly and test capabilities and supporting rapid scaling of AI PC solutions for consumer and enterprise markets.
- The ROHM deal follows Tata's partnership by about a week, and media reports indicate the $15000 million possible next phase aims to boost incentives for capital goods and raw materials.
