Rogers to lock out former Shaw technicians Monday after contract talks break down
Rogers Communication Inc. plans to lock out nearly 300 former Shaw technicians on Monday after contract negotiations broke down. The technicians, who support homes and businesses for internet, phone, and television services in B.C.'s Lower Mainland, had issued a notice of their intent to walk off the job.
The United Steelworkers union Local 1944 Unit 60, representing the workers, rejected a deal from Rogers and planned to begin rotating strikes at noon on Monday. The union is concerned about job security as Rogers increasingly relies on contractors.
Rogers states that locking out the employees is a necessary step to ensure uninterrupted service for customers. The union wants to return to the bargaining table and secure a fair deal.
