Gov. Beshear's Senior Adviser Adkins Leaves Role
On Monday, July 13, 2026, Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear announced that Senior Advisor Rocky Adkins left his role on Friday, July 10. Beshear named Ray Perry, previously deputy secretary of the executive cabinet, as the new senior advisor.
During his seven years in the administration since 2019, Adkins helped secure more than 1,300 projects totaling over $50 billion in investments and created more than 70,000 jobs. He previously served 32 years in the Kentucky House, including as House Majority Leader.
Throughout his seven years, Adkins helped navigate the COVID-19 pandemic and over a dozen natural disasters. Beshear praised his commitment, stating, "Every day, Rocky shows up ready to serve the people of our commonwealth."
Adkins' departure fuels speculation regarding a potential 2027 gubernatorial run, though he has not publicly announced his candidacy. Reports suggest he may share details during public events next week in Lexington and Louisville.
If Adkins enters the Democratic primary, he would compete against Lieutenant Governor Jacqueline Coleman, who announced her candidacy in April. Adkins previously ran for governor in 2019, losing to Beshear by six points.
