Zelenskiy Says Russia Kills 25 in 'Most Vile Strikes'

Russia fired 70 missiles and dozens of drones, officials said, as Ukraine reported widespread damage to homes, factories and energy infrastructure.

  • Russia launched 70 missiles and dozens of drones across Ukraine on Wednesday, killing at least 25 people in what President Volodymyr Zelenskiy termed "vile strikes" coinciding with Russian President Vladimir Putin's birthday.
  • In Pryluky, a Russian missile destroyed a five-storey residential building, wounding about 55 people in the town; Deputy Mayor Danylo Savenko said, "There's a lot of destruction, especially in the town centre."
  • Ukraine's air force intercepted about 80 per cent of 46 jet-powered drones launched by Russia, a sharp increase from recent weeks when air defences downed 50 to 60 per cent on average.
  • Prime Minister Sergii Koretskyi announced Ukraine received 1.2 billion euro from the European Union for defence needs, while Russia's defence ministry claimed a "massive strike" on industrial facilities including Fire Point sites.
  • Zelenskiy condemned the attacks, stating, "This is the kind of birthday present that Putin gave himself: the killing of children," as Interior Minister Ivan Vyhivskyi reported the death toll has reached 28.
