Rapper Rick Ross charged with battery after domestic violence accusation
The rapper faces one felony and one misdemeanor battery charge, with bond set at $6,000 and an arraignment scheduled for Oct. 22.
On Thursday, Miami Beach police arrested rapper Rick Ross on domestic violence charges. The 50-year-old, legally named William Leonard Roberts, faces one felony count of battery by strangulation and one misdemeanor count of battery.
A Miami-area native known for hits including "Hustlin'," Ross has been a prominent figure in hip-hop for two decades. He was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center early Thursday morning.
Bond was set at $5,000 for the felony battery by strangulation charge and $1,000 for the misdemeanor battery charge, totaling $6,000. Ross has retained private attorney Bradley Horenstein to represent him.
His arraignment is scheduled for October 22, though specific details regarding the incident, including the time and location of the alleged domestic violence, remain unavailable as of Thursday.
The arrest follows public abuse accusations made by Ross' former girlfriend, Jazzma Kendrick, though it remains unclear if they are connected. Kendrick alleged on social media that Ross injured her lip during a prior incident.
