RIAT to leave RAF Fairford for new home after four decades
Organisers said the 2027 event’s bookings remain valid and more than 500,000 STEM engagements were funded in 2025.
- Organizers confirmed on Wednesday that the Royal International Air Tattoo will relocate from RAF Fairford to MOD Boscombe Down, ending a 40-year tenure with the airshow scheduled for 16 to 18 July 2027.
- The relocation follows cancellation of the 2026 show due to uncertainty over access to RAF Fairford, which served as a United States Air Force forward operating location during Middle East operations.
- Gavin Gager, chief executive of Royal Air Force Charitable Trust Enterprises, said the move is "about securing the future" of the world's largest military airshow, which in 2025 funded more than 500,000 STEM engagements for young people.
- Wiltshire Council leader Councillor Ian Thorn called the move "fantastic news for Wiltshire" that will boost the local economy, while organizers reassured ticket holders that existing bookings remain valid for MOD Boscombe Down.
- Organizers plan to share further details regarding travel, accommodation, and showground updates in the coming months ahead of the inaugural RIAT27 event scheduled for July 2027.
