RFK Jr. swaps vaccine talk for healthy foods and reading to tots in push to woo voters
Kennedy promoted healthy food, Head Start and addiction recovery as Republicans seek an edge in a competitive Ohio district.
Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. toured Ohio childcare centers and farms this week during his "Take Back Your Health" tour, promoting nutritional initiatives and federal support for community programs.
While Kennedy promised increased investments, critics highlighted nearly $900 billion in Medicaid reductions under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, arguing these cuts contradict the administration's public health goals and have steeply cut staff and budgets.
At Clever Bee Academy, Kennedy announced a $30,000 federal grant to upgrade the kitchen and community garden, where classrooms displayed posters featuring his "Eat Real Food" slogan and redesigned food pyramid.
Kennedy also visited the Hope Recovery Community and The Chef's Garden, promoting a $100 million investment in addiction treatment services, including sober housing, to replicate the recovery center's model nationwide.
Republicans view Kennedy as an asset in the competitive northern Ohio congressional district held by Democrat Marcy Kaptur for more than 40 years, hoping his "Take Back Your Health" message strengthens party appeal to voters.
