Review: At New Mystic Lake Amphitheater, Bob Dylan Was Delightfully, Enchantingly Cryptic
Dylan’s 16-song set leaned on Rough and Rowdy Ways as security enforced a no-phone rule and denied press photos.
On Monday, July 6, 2026, 85-year-old Bob Dylan performed a 16-song set for 7,000 fans at the Mystic Lake Amphitheater in Shakopee, marking his first headline gig in the Twin Cities since 2017.
Security personnel strictly enforced a total ban on cell phone photography and video recording throughout the show, while Dylan veiled himself in a hoodie and declined to greet the crowd or introduce his band.
Dylan performed half the tracklist from his 2020 album, "Rough and Rowdy Ways," and played the 1971 tune "When I Paint My Masterpiece," blending styles reminiscent of a 1920s swing number and a Spanish rumba.
Dylan, who is 85, remained enigmatic throughout the evening, offering observations on aging: "You don't chase the parade anymore. You're an old king from some vanished country."
This performance was the 48th concert this year for Dylan, who has maintained his "Never Ending Tour" nearly constantly since 1988, demonstrating sustained artistic commitment across decades.
