Despite the Decline, ANO Won in Ostrava, Aiming to Become the Youngest Mayor in Czech History

The ANO movement has won the municipal elections in Ostrava again. So far, it has 26.73 percent. In second place is the srdcOVA coalition (ODS, KDU-ČSL, TOP 09) with 19 percent. The Mayors for Ostrava are in third place with 16 percent. Voter turnout is around 34 percent. If the ANO movement manages to form a coalition, the Moravian-Silesian metropolis could have the youngest mayor in Czech history.
Soon after the votes are counted, negotiations on the future coalition are underway in Ostrava. One possibility is cooperation between ANO and the Mayors and Motorists. Other options are also being considered.
In Ostrava, the ANO movement managed to defend its victory, even though it lost ground compared to previous results. On the other hand, the former Spolu coalition improved.
They are winning, but certainly not with the same majority as four years ago. In Ostrava, over 50 percent of the precincts have been counted and the ANO movement is currently leading. It has around 27 percent of the votes. In the last election, led by former mayor Tomáš Macura, ANO won 34 percent.
The municipal elections in Ostrava were won, as in the previous ones, by the ANO movement. However, it lost three seats, now winning eighteen seats in the council with 55 members.
