Middletown police: 2 men arrested after conducting armed home invasion, assault of home resident
Two men, Edward Coghill and Stewart Tkachuk, were convicted of multiple charges related to a violent home invasion in Lumby, B.C., that occurred in September 2019.
The victims, James Jurica and Candace Kado, suffered gunshot injuries during the invasion, with Jurica being shot in the chest, stomach, and hip.
The Crown is seeking a high-range sentence due to the serious nature of the crimes, while Tkachuk's lawyer argues for a lesser sentence based on Tkachuk's past character and dated criminal history.
The court will reconvene on January 20 to set a date for the sentencing decision by Justice John Gibb-Carsley.
