- On Wednesday, researchers from AI Forensics reported tens of thousands of non-consensual intimate images were traded on Telegram, urging the European Union to implement stricter oversight of the platform's moderation.
- Between December 2025 and February 2026, a six-week study tracked more than 80,000 files across 16 channels, identifying almost 25,000 active users in Spanish and Italian groups exchanging content.
- Almost 75 percent of tracked files were photos, 25 percent videos, including AI-generated 'deepfakes' and images of teenagers; many originated from TikTok, Instagram, or Snapchat.
- AI Forensics urged the European Union to classify Telegram as a 'very large online platform' under the Digital Services Act , while Telegram stated sharing non-consensual images is forbidden and its moderation systems are effective.
