Social security “deeply harming people’s rights”

The Ombudsman has warned that Social Security is disregarding fundamental rights in demanding the return of social benefits with “irregular practices” that “have persisted for many years”, sometimes putting the livelihood of beneficiaries at risk.

There are situations in which social security requires the return of social support that has been paid. The Ombudsman underlines that it is necessary to respect the obligations of notification and foundation, the legal limits of compensation and the rights of defence of the citizen.
