Republican convention pays tribute to Charlie Kirk one year after his killing
Republicans unveiled a bronze statue and played a memorial video as Turning Point USA marked one year since Kirk was killed.
On Thursday, Republicans paid tribute to Turning Point USA leader Charlie Kirk at their Dallas convention, where attendees observed a five-minute memorial video and unveiled a bronze statue one year after his assassination.
Kirk was killed on September 10, 2025, while speaking at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. Tyler Robinson, 23, turned himself in the next day and faces the death penalty if convicted of aggravated murder.
Turning Point USA CEO Erika Kirk has assumed her late husband's public speaking roles as the organization's membership and social media following have multiplied, according to vice president Lucas Miles.
Vice President JD Vance honored his late friend during the convention, recalling Kirk's support during his 2024 political rise and urging Republicans to maintain unity within the Make America Great Again movement.
Despite organizational growth, internal strain persists as a faction led by podcaster Candice Owens questions official prosecutorial narratives, fueling online conspiracy theories that complicate the movement's public mourning.
