Report: Tanner Tessmann Left Off USMNT's Final World Cup Roster

Alejandro Zendejas and Cristian Roldan made the 26-man squad, while the U.S. must submit its final roster to FIFA by June 1, officials said.

  • Midfielder Tanner Tessmann was left off the United States men's national team roster for the 2026 World Cup, multiple sources confirmed Saturday; his omission from the 26-man squad is considered the biggest surprise of the selections.
  • Joining the squad are Club America winger Alejandro Zendejas and Seattle Sounders midfielder Cristian Roldan, despite Zendejas not appearing for the USMNT since October. Players were informed of these roster decisions on Friday.
  • Alongside the omissions, center backs Miles Robinson and Chris Richards and forward Ricardo Pepi return to the squad after missing the 2022 tournament. Diego Luna was also excluded due to a muscle injury.
  • Coach Mauricio Pochettino will officially announce the roster Tuesday in New York City. Official squads must be submitted to FIFA by June 1, though replacements are permitted after the deadline "only in the event of serious injury or illness."
  • The United States, co-hosting with Canada and Mexico, opens Group D play against Paraguay on June 12 at SoFi Stadium. The team will play two send-off friendlies in Charlotte and Chicago before traveling to their California base camp.
